Gaia Gaibazzi is an Italian clarinetist and bass clarinetist who began playing at the age of ten. She graduated with distinction in 2015 from the Conservatorio "Niccolò Paganini" in Genoa.

She completed a Master's degree in Music Performance in 2017 and Master's in Music Pedagogy in 2019 at the Zurich University of the Arts (Zürcher Hochschule der Künste), where she studied clarinet with Prof. Fabio Di Càsola and bass clarinet with Prof. Bernhard Röthlisberger and Filipa Nunes. She is currently pursuing PhD in Music at the University of Aveiro and continues her clarinet studies at the Accademia "Scatola Sonora" in Rome with Maestro Calogero Palermo.

She has also had the opportunity to study with renowned clarinetists such as Jörg Widmann, Harri Mäki, Davide Lattuada, Enrico Maria Baroni, Corrado Orlando, and Massimo Ferraris.

Her concert career has taken her to some of the most prestigious venues across Europe, including Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Philharmonie de Paris, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Victoria Hall in Geneva, Tonhalle Zurich, Teatro San Carlo Neaples, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Teatro Sociale di Como, Casa da Música in Porto, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, and Teatro Dal Verme in Milan.

 

She has performed as a soloist and as a member of renowned orchestras such as the Ensemble Modern, Giraud Ensemble, ZHdK Orchestra, Arc-en-Ciel Ensemble, Jugend Sinfonieorchester Zürich (JSOZ), Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini, Orchestra dell'Accademia Musicale Teresiana, Ochestra Filarmonica Italiana, and the State Opera Varna, where she served as principal clarinet in 2024. Gaia has worked under the direction of esteemed conductors, including Riccardo Muti, Wayne Marshall, Jonathan, Stockhammer, Dennis Russell Davies, Pierre-André Valade, Zsolt Nagy, Marc Kissóczy, and Yuri Simonov.

She has also been invited to perform at numerous festivals, including the Alexander Arutiunian International Wind Festival in Yerevan, FIMU – Festival International de Musique Universitaire in Belfort, Zurich International Saxfest, Ravenna Festival, and Festival Fiati in Novara.

Gaia has received multiple awards, including three first prizes: the Klang & Gloria Competition in Zurich (2016), the Concorso di Musica G. Ratto in Italy, and the Concorso Musicale Virginia Centurione. She also won a third prize in the Contemporary Music Competition of the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (2016).

As an active chamber musician, Gaia is a member of ensembles such as the Liv Quartet and Trio Zefiro. She has performed in prestigious concert series and festivals, including Concerti di Primavera-GOG, Santa Festival, MITOFringe/Festival MITO Milano, Lange Nacht der Musik Zürich, and Tage für Neue Musik Zürich.

She regularly collaborates with Zürich-based composers, recording contemporary and film music. Between 2015 and 2019, she participated in the Prélude Konzert Festival of the Tonhalle Zürich, where she performed works by Jörg Widmann, Béla Bartók, and Matthias Pintscher.


Gaia is also currently teaching at the Musikschule Würenlos and collaborating with the Konservatorium Zürich. Since 2011, she has been actively teaching music, clarinet, solfège, and theory at various institutions in Switzerlandincluding the Musikverein Harmonie Berikon, Inter-Community School of Zumikon, Harmonie Birmensdorf, Musikverein Oberrieden, Musikschule Limmattal, Musikgesellschaft Würenlos, Musikschule Pratteln-August Giebenach, and Blasorchester Baden-Wettingen.

She has recorded two albums: the first with the Giraud Ensemble in 2019 for the Solo Musica label (Sony Music), and the second with pianist Clarissa Carafa, Mentors 2025, for Da Vinci Classics.
